About
"One day when I stared into my closet at all the clothes I never wear, I thought 'this could be the start!'. Beate Leitermann had visited the Guzo Addis workshop several times, and the women's strength, determination and talent had left a deep impression. She had been wondering how to help them and now it became clear. "I hosted event where I sold my excess clothes. The next time I went to my home town Berlin, I used the proceeds from the clothes sale to buy wool for the women". Woolpower was born.

Beate's reached out to her friend Steffi, who owns a wool shop (link) in Berlin. Steffi was immediately onboard. Soon, she travelled to Addis to meet the ladies and give them further ideas and skills. Now they can knit!

We don't want to change the world. But we want to make a difference. We want to start by helping these courageous, strong women and others like them succeed. The proceeds that we collect will go directly to supporting women living with disabilities in Ethiopia through employing more women living with disabilities joining the enterprise by developing their skills to produce handcrafted wool and cotton garments and crocheted soft toys.
The proceeds will also support the ongoing work of NGO Guzo Addis, where the story began and which supports people with disabilities in Ethiopia through the areas of Counseling, Aid Provision, Rehabilitation, Education and Sport, promoting the social and professional integration of people with disabilities.

You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.
